In this issue we have highlights from the New Zealand National fish show 2007 by David Cooper. David works at the Muhurangi Technical Research Institute and has extensive experience in the NZ aquarium industry.

Our feature article is Lake Malawi safari. Anthony Ramsey tells of his African travels around Lake Malawi. This travelogue is accompanied by fantastic photos of Lake Malawi from both above and below the surface!

Dr Richmond Loh, our resident fish vet, has written 2 great articles, one on being wise water use and another on seahorse husbandry. We also have a new environmental section to our news. Highlights include a story from the World Conservation Union about Banggai Cardinals and another from Sydney Aquarium Conservation Fund about their scientific research program to boost the number of seahorses in Sydney Harbour.

Also on the Australian front we have an article written by Dave Wilson about the collection of Australia’s largest snail Notopala waterhousei from its habitat in the Northern Territory. Also on natives, Adrian Tappin writes about the Melanoaenia spendida rainbowfish with superb photography from the world renown phtotograhper Günther Schmida.

We've had request from shopkeepers to run articles on “bread and butter” fish. So in this issue we have the our cover fish the pearl gourami and also clown loach, rainbowfish, koi and kribensis.

In our dedicated marine section Christian Hoffman, Paul Talbot and Dr. Richmond Loh write about sea urchin, protein skimmers and sea horses.

Dr. David Midgley rounds out the magazine with an plant article that highlights five easy and beautiful plants for your aquarium – crypts, Anubias nana, java moss, water fern and water sprite.
